Frequently asked questions

Yes. Everything for running a team is free: the schedule, availability with automatic reminders, squad selection, the match-day card, the attendance register, chat, announcements and polls, payments, and tournaments with optional entry fees. There are no limits on teams, members or admins, and no adverts. Collecting money by bank transfer is free too; instant online payments are optional and carry a Squono fee of 0.5%, capped at £1 per payment, plus Stripe's own processing fee.

Squono Pro, for match video, is optional. Add it to the teams that want it – everything in Free stays free either way.

Teams that want match video choose Squono Pro – that's how Squono is funded, along with a small fee on optional instant online payments (bank transfers are always free). No adverts, no selling data, no catch.

Squono Pro is private match video for your team, so nobody misses a moment. Watch every match back on your phone, laptop or TV; tap the touchline buttons as it happens and the highlights build themselves; keep every parent's phone clips in one place; give grandparents a family pass; and watch each child's season of moments back to back. It also includes goalscorer clips, safe sharing of a single clip or match, and downloads if your club allows them. Everything in Free stays included.

Pro is chosen per team, so a club can have some teams on Free and others on Pro. See pricing for the current price.

The club can pay, or a coach or parent can pay for just their own team – a parent's offer is approved by the team's coach first. Paying never changes what anyone can see.

No – not on Free and not on Pro. We don't show adverts, we don't send marketing notifications to parents or players, and we don't sell data.

By invitation from their club. A coach, manager or club administrator invites each parent or guardian by email. The invitation is tied to that email address, so a forwarded link won't work for anyone else.

It's free for parents. If you're a parent and haven't had an invitation, ask your team's coach or manager.

No. Parents can reply to availability and pay from an email or link without installing anything, and can add fixtures to their calendar by subscribing to a feed – no calendar permission needed. The app makes things quicker, but it's never required.

Yes. Export your member list from Spond as an Excel or CSV file and import it into Squono. Add your fixtures from a calendar link (.ics) or a spreadsheet, set up recurring training for the season, then send families their invitations.

Payments and subscriptions set up in another app don't move across, so you'll create new payment requests in Squono. See Squono and Spond compared.

A club secretary, chair, welfare officer, coach or anyone the club trusts to set it up. You create an account, add your club and first team and invite people. It's free, and you can add Squono Pro to any team later. Get started free.

Anyone signed in can organise a tournament for free, with as many teams as they like. Choose groups then knockout (with a cup and plate), round robin only or knockout only. Add teams, pitches, match length and start time, and Squono builds the schedule across your pitches – no team plays two matches at once, and back-to-back matches are avoided where possible. You can then adjust it.

The organiser and scorers (with a scorer link and PIN) enter scores and can correct them. Anyone with the tournament code or QR code can follow live on the web or in the app without an account, and there's a big-screen view for the clubhouse. More about tournaments.

Yes, if you want to. Set an optional entry fee per team, for the whole tournament or for each age group. Each team gets a private link with the amount, your bank details and its own payment reference, so you can match payments on your bank statement.

Mark each team as paid, unpaid or waived, and send reminders to teams that haven't paid yet. Your bank details only appear on those private team links – never on the public tournament page. It's free: entry fees paid by bank transfer carry no Squono fee.

Not for U7–U11. The FA doesn't allow results or league tables to be published for these age groups, so the public view shows fixtures and “played” only. The organiser can still record scores privately. Tournaments involving affiliated teams also need to be sanctioned by the County FA – Squono reminds you, but can't do it for you.

Not for Squono – it's free for families. The only time a parent pays us is if they choose to pay for their team's Pro (and the coach agrees). If your club asks for subs or kit money through Squono, you pay the club what it asks – by bank transfer, or online if your club offers it.

Not on bank transfers or cash – they're free. Families pay into the club's bank account using the details the club gives, and the club marks it as paid.

Instant online payments, by card or Pay by Bank, are optional. A club that wants them connects its own Stripe account, and the money goes straight there. They carry a Squono fee of 0.5%, capped at £1 per payment, plus Stripe's own processing fee (under the club's own agreement with Stripe). The fee is the club's cost – it's never added on top of what families pay.

Clubs can also mark cash as paid, waive a payment, cancel a request made in error and refund card payments from the app.

Squono Free is £0 for every team, member and admin, and collecting money by bank transfer is free. Instant online payments are optional and carry a Squono fee of 0.5%, capped at £1 per payment, plus Stripe's own processing fee. Squono Pro, for match video, is optional and paid per team – monthly or annually by the club, or with a Season Pass by a coach or parent – so a club only pays for the teams that have it. Yes – private by default. There's nothing public to find: no public team pages, no player profiles, no search listings and no social feed. Only people your club has invited can sign in, and every video and thumbnail is checked against that person's permissions before it's shown.

Your club decides. For each team you can choose who sees full matches, highlights, results, photos and downloads – for example the whole team, coaches only, or selected families. You can change the rule for a single match or video too. Scores and goalscorers can be kept private.

Coaching notes are for coaches. People only ever see teams they've been invited to. Opposition clubs only see a match you've specifically shared with them, for as long as you allow.

Email hello@squono.com or use our contact form and choose “Data protection request or complaint”. You can ask for a copy of your information, a correction or deletion, or complain about how we've used it. You can also download your data or ask to delete your account from Account → Your data.

We acknowledge complaints within 30 days and respond to requests within one month. For a particular video or team, your club decides what's shared, so we may pass your request to the club and help it respond.

Yes. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the UK regulator for data protection. It asks people to raise a concern with the organisation first, so please contact us and give us the chance to put it right. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the ICO or call its helpline on 0303 123 1113 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays)).

Downloading is a permission your club controls, not a guarantee. Turning downloads off removes the download option, but no website can stop someone recording their own screen or filming it with another phone. That's why it matters who you invite, and why clubs should remind families of their filming and sharing policy.

The FA recommends that every club has a photography and filming policy and shares its guidance with members, officials and parents (FA Guidance Note 8.3, version 1.3). The policy should explain why the club films, how recordings are used and stored, who can see them, and how parents can opt out or raise a concern.

Club administrators and team managers or coaches can publish the policy in Squono – as text, a PDF or both – so every parent can read it, including families who are still joining. Before anything is published, a club owner or admin also confirms that the club has the permissions and policies it needs.

Yes. The FA says parents should be given the chance to opt out. In Squono, go to More → Your children and filming and tick the opt-out for your child, with a note for the coaches if you like. Coaches can also record it in the squad list.

The team's coaches and managers then see a reminder listing opted-out children when they record, publish, make clips or share a match, so they can keep the camera wide and avoid clips focused on your child. Other parents never see it. Matches are usually filmed wide, so your child may still appear in the background – if they must not appear at all, speak to your team manager or club welfare officer too.

Yes. The FA's guidance says a club should inform the opposition before filming and take on board any legitimate concerns. Let the other team's manager know before kick-off, keep the camera wide rather than following individual children, and follow any rules set by the league, tournament or venue. Squono's match setup card and recording checklist include this reminder.

The main document is FA Guidance Note 8.3: Photographing and Filming Children (version 1.3, 2025). Among other things it says clubs should explain how recordings are used and their lawful basis, offer parents an opt-out, inform the opposition before filming, minimise close-ups of individual players, store footage securely, keep it only as long as needed, and never film in changing rooms, showers or toilets. It also advises against publishing names alongside images without written consent.

For a video or photo on Squono, use “Report a concern” or “Request removal” on it so your club sees it straight away. Our safeguarding page lists every route, including CEOP for online abuse and contacts in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Yes, on teams with Squono Pro. Open TV mode in a web browser on your TV or games console, or cast or screen-mirror from your phone, tablet or laptop (for example with Chromecast or AirPlay, where your devices support it). Not every smart TV browser plays video well, so casting from a phone is often the easiest option.

Hiding a score in Squono hides it on our pages – it isn't sent to the screen at all. But if your camera recorded a scoreboard or overlay into the video itself, that stays in the footage. Squono can't remove anything that is burned into the recording.

No. Squono is for watching and sharing privately, not a backup. Please keep your original camera files somewhere safe (for example the camera maker's app, a computer or an external drive). The version we store is prepared for streaming and may not be the same quality as your original.

Match video is part of Squono Pro. If your camera or phone can save or export an ordinary video file (such as MP4 or MOV), you can upload it. See our camera and recording guides for tips on exporting from popular cameras.

Yes. Match videos are large, so uploads from a phone can take a while and may pause if your screen locks or you switch apps. Keep the page open and your phone plugged in and on Wi-Fi if you can. If an upload stops, open the upload page again and choose the same file to carry on.

Full match videos are kept for 12 months by default, and a club owner can choose a different period in the club's settings. Highlights are kept while the team has Pro, and for 90 days after a team's Pro ends. Coaches are told before anything is removed, so the club can keep a match that's still needed (and remember to keep your own original files).
