The rules
Fair voting, built in
Opens at full time
Voting opens when the match ends and closes after 24 hours by default. Votes can be changed until then.
One vote each
One vote per family when parents vote, or one per player when players vote. In youth teams, a parent votes on behalf of their child.
No voting for your own
By default nobody can vote for their own child – or for themselves in an adult team.
Ties and quiet weeks
The most votes wins, a tie means joint winners, and no votes means no award this time. The coach can always choose joint winners or “no award this week”.
Counts kept private
Winners are announced to the team. Families don't see vote counts unless the award is set up to show them; coaches always see the tally.
Safeguarding first
A child with a safeguarding restriction is never named to anyone except the team's staff and their own family.
Younger players
Recognise effort, not just goals
For the youngest age groups, many clubs prefer awards for effort, teamwork or being a good team-mate. Rugby league's primary rules, for example, allow festivals to recognise values such as effort and teamwork.
- Name awards the way your team talks – “Star of the week”, “Best team-mate”
- Coach-picked awards for the youngest players, votes for older ones
- Switch awards off for a team entirely if they're not for you
